Jason Jordan Segel (born January 18, 1980) is an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and author best known for his role as Marshall Eriksen in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother and his work with comedy writer/producer/director Judd Apatow on the sitcoms Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. He has starred in films such as I Love You, Man; Despicable Me; and Jeff, Who Lives At Home; and has both starred in and wrote or co-wrote the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall; The Muppets (2011 film); The Five-Year Engagement; and Sex Tape. One of his first notable all-dramatic roles as late author David Foster Wallace in the film The End of the Tour received critical acclaim and earned Segel an Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead in 2015. He is currently in the early stages of writing, directing, and likely starring in the upcoming spinoff of The LEGO Movie known as The Billion Brick Race.
